Scuba Diving in St Kitts
Scuba dive the Caribbean and Atlantic from St. Kitts and Nevis
Scuba enthusiasts come to Bird Rock Beach Dive Resort to experience the
exceptional dive opportunities in the waters surrounding St. Kitts and Nevis.
Dive St. Kitts is right at our dock, and is the most complete diving operation
on the island. St. Kitts and Nevis offer a wealth of scuba experiences, from
colorful reef formations to fascinating wrecks.
Dive St. Kitts (formerly St.
Kitts Scuba), we guarantee that the serene beauty of our untouched dive sites
will overwhelm you, the peace and tranquility of our islands will refresh you,
and the inherent warmth and hospitality of our professional staff will put your
mind at ease.
The Atlantic and Caribbean waters surrounding St. Kitts and Nevis offer the
scuba diver a wealth of experiences, from colorful reef formations to
fascinating wrecks.
As most of our dives occur on the protected,
Caribbean side of the islands, you can expect a huge selection of reefs and
wrecks that begin in shallow water and fall off to depths of 100 feet and more,
with areas of extensive fish life and formations for exploration.
Visibility and weather are always spectacular, and
you can expect only a short boat ride to each dive site, making multiple dive
days a continuous exhilaration
Dive Sites (some of the favorite)
Coconut Tree Reef
One of St. Kitts largest reef systems with something for every level of diver.
The mooring is set at 45 feet on a gently sloping reef that has a sandy bottom
at about 120 feet. Stay on top or follow your dive master down to deeper depths.
This dive site is a 10-minute boat ride from our dock making it one of our great
multi-level dive sites.
The Rocks
As a part of the coconut tree reef system this is a great multi-level site.
Expect visibility of 60-100 feet. Some photographers might spend their whole
dive shooting Marco on the three large boulders that give this site its name.
Nag's Head
Our best and only "drift dive". Well really you may have to kick a little. We
don't have much current. We actually call it the non-navigation dive as the boat
follows a flag so we can go as fast or slow, as we want. The dive starts at
around 60 feet but ends up like an extended safety stop at 15-25 feet.
Tug Boat
A fully intact tugboat sitting at 65 feet on a sandy bottom. Off the bow section
of the tug is a reef system that tops out at 35-feet, a wreck and a reef on the
same dive, what more do you want?
Paradise Reef
Located within range of the cannons of Brimstone Hill Fortress. This is St.Kitts'
only marine preserve. The big guns atop the fortress were capable of sending a
40 pound shell about 3 miles. The wood from the old ships is gone but anchors,
cannons, and some time relics can be found. Farmer's pipes, plates, bottles and
flatware have all been found here with items on display at Brimstone Hill or The
National Heritage Museum
River Taw
Everybody that dives in St.Kitts dives "the taw". It's our most dived site. "The
Taw" is a 144ft. freighter that went down in 1985, sat perfectly upright on the
bottom until 1989 when Hurricane Hugo came through and broke the wreck into two
parts. This is the only site where we feed the fish so bring a camera, they are
going to be in your face!
There are over 700 species
of fish in the Caribbean!
Sea life sights our guests
like to see:
Turtles: On St.Kitts we have a lot of turtles. Mainly Hawksbill and Greenbacks
with an occasional leatherback thrown in for good measure. We usually see 6-10 a
week.
Rays: We have some huge southern stingrays
found in most sandy areas or most dive sites. During the winter we may see black
and white spotted eagle rays on some of our deeper sites.
Porcupine Fish: We have large "porkeys" up 3ft long. With their "E.T" eyes and
puckered lip smile, these are great photo subjects.
Eels: St. Kitts is home to a variety of eels including black and white spotted,
purple mouth, golden chain and spotted snake eels
Coral: Some of our sites are pristine with large pillar coral, sea fans and the
variety of fish life that comes with a healthy reef.
